Throughout Term 3, Helen was participating in a community swimming programme. Each week we took a bus to the Otara Leisure Centre where Helen and her group learned a variety of swimming techniques and water safety.
Over the weeks, Helen continued to gain confidence and improve her swimming capabilities. She listened carefully to instructions, was keen to show her swimming instructor what she could do and get feedback. By the end of the of the term, I noticed an improvement in Helen’s leg kick and her confidence in the water.
Helen was also a keen participator in several games that the learners played in the pool. These games help to provide the learners with confidence to dive and put their face under the water.
In one session, Helen joined in with the whole group to learning about water safety. She wore a life jacket and worked as a team to form a circle, then kick together to safety. These skills will be very important for Helen should she find herself in the water while out boating. Helen also learned how to do the ‘pin drop’ and roll backwards into the water from the side of the pool - all important life saving skills.
Each week, the 30 minute swimming experience went by very quickly and soon it was not long before all the learners were out of the pool and back on the bus, to OrmPS.

Swimming
Every Tuesday we went to swimming. Why i am talking about this, well i like swimming... not quit, but i like swimming. So what am i talking about?... Oh yea swimming! So yesterday it was Tuesday 8th August 2017 and yesterday it was swimming and i am group 7 so i go at 12:30 pm. when ever we get there we have to wait... and i don't like it and i am cold.Also there were groups and i am in group 1 and i am group 2 last year when i am year 4 ha, haaaaaa and i am suppose to be in group 3. I was learning the basics like kicking our feet and blowing bubbles under water! and i all ready know how to do all of that. The only thing i like to do is to go swimming and learn to swim and when ever i go in the water it is cold but a while later it feels normal.Swimming is fun but at the swimming class that i go at the weekend i am not allow to stand up!
i love swimming but sometimes i do not like come last because other people in front of me might be slow and when they start kicking the water splashes every where so that what i do not like.
i really want to go to group 3 because the water is kind of deep and it would be fun

At Friday 12 may we went to Fo Guang Shan. When got to Fo Guang Shan it was raining, to bad but there was a beautiful greeting some people that works at Fo Guang Shan, they were holding pink and red umbrellas. I never saw a beautiful unbrella , i have been to Fo guang shan to learn maths with my finger but one day i was doing maths and when i saw i have to do a lot of homework i cried and i never go there again. It was fun i like when we get to make flowers and when we can eat brownies and the most thing that i like is the bells when we go back we get to have bells so i remember Fo Guang Shan.it was so fun i get to go there again because i will be turing into a year six.
Science road show
Science road show
Last week on Friday we were doing the science road show i was not there because i was working in the multi space. As normal i come to school at half past eight, i went to the multi space because i want to help for the science road show. There was Raghav, Seline, Hannah, Gracy, Komal, Brian, Awaab, lim-hor, Micah, Julian and me. There were a lot of people all ready helping putting the signs on the machines that matches the signs. I just put only two signs. Then we were training to do the science road show and we can watch a video what to do to be a person that leads and looks after the machine. We have a time table so we know where to go. I like some of these machines like the hover craft. It was fun. I was tired by doing the hover craft.it was end of the day, it was fun and i was tired.At the start i was excited but when people came i was super nervous. I was tired and i want to have a nap but i helped pack the machines and it was market day so i went and said god bye and it was fun.
My Holiday Being Sick
Well i am not feeling really well and it is boring at home i haven't been to school 5 days already but well 3 days. I have been coughing really hard and my tummy hurts when i cough so yea... so?... I gave my sickness to Kiko, well my little sister and then my little sister gave HER sickness to my mum and i gave my sickness to my dad well is not really sickness it is just coughs and so all five of us is sick.
Thursday 9th, i was sick
I started to cough in the morning but i just, achoo sorry so... and then i coughed ok bad start.So as normal i got dressed. I went down stairs i ate breakfast with my parents and then i cough and cough and cough and cough it was so hurtful for my tummy and so my parents did not let me go to school (sad) well not to sad i... found... the... I PAD YAY i can play on it but not for long. After a while i did my homework to bad but my grandma forced me to do it so, so sad.well hope my little sister is having better luck that i have i guess?.
Friday 10th, and i was still sick
Yep you guessed it i am about to cough. (cough cough cough) . Got dressed went down stairs stole my dads food and ask am i am going to school.I went to school i feel okay but i still cough. When it is home time i slept on the new sofa that my mum and dad bought, the next day i feel better but i was tired.My Grandma told me to wake up i was really tired so i got up and of to school i go.

My Holiday
Last week and the week after last week it was the holidays.The favourite thing to do was going to Vivian's house for a sleep over. When I came to Vivian's house it was quiet but i can hear some one playing the piano, when Vivian opened the door she teach me how to play the piano. Oh I did not tell you that my little sister came with me to go to the sleep over. When we finished playing with the piano Vivian gave me some chips and hi-chew, hi-chew is my favourite lolly there are more flavours, there are banana flavour, melon flavour, mango flavour, strawberry flavour, grape flavour and green apple flavour. I slept in Vivian's huge bed and my little sister slept on the matres that Vivian's mum gave her to sleep in.Vivian woke me up 3 times and at midnight my little sister cried because she want my mum and so noisy. then Vivian's mum called my mum to come pick kiko up and i was so tied. the next moring i woke up first and my mum said we are going the bus, so i woke up first. Then we all went to the bus.

(literary)Learning about Homophones
Wednesday 7th June
Today we learned about homophones.It was easy, a homophone is a word that sound the same but different spelling like knight and night, two to and too, There they're(they are) and their. GREAT RIGHT!????? OK lets get learning.
Sometimes you might not know, wait now and know is a homophone RIGHT?? , snap out of it. Sorry i just got excited. Lets get working, so as what i was saying, sometimes you might get confused what other people say, now here HA HA HA, here and hair is an homophone, stop it!!!!! sorry again. So here is an example
now lets say that " There is an apple" and the other person said " which there is it the dare that you dare people" " nooooooo!!!!!!" " Then what dear" "it is ... it is ... i'm getting out of here"
Now that is a confusion or not for some people. Now here is a game or not a game is some sort of game but is NOT A GAME. Here is a example

Helen has been learning about Maori Myths and Legends in iExperience. The learning coaches took her through the differences between a Myth and Legend. Her learning coach read the book “Hinepau” to the class. Helen's task was to listen to the story and draw inspiration from it in order to draw a picture based on the story “Hinepau”. This task encourages her to make connections between the text and knowledge of drawing.
After listening to the story, Helen was inspired to draw a volcano. She showed her capabilities in drawing by adding beautiful Koru patterns to it to represent smoke coming out of the volcano. She also used the weaving theme of the iExperience in her drawing by drawing a weaving pattern on the volcano.

Next Step: Helen’s next step is to colour in her picture. After she colours her picture she is going to cut her picture into strips so that she can weave. The end result will look similar to the picture below.
